Want to live longer? Lift weights.

Proof is in that if you want to live longer, you need to improve your strength by lifting weights. The study of nearly 9000 men and published in the British Medical Journal has shown that increased strength is related to decreased death from all causes, cancer and cardiovascular disease. http://www.bmj.com/content/337/bmj.a439

From my experience working with clients between 40-90 years of age, it’s been interesting to observe the effect that strength training has had in the older age groups. The things that consistently come up in conversations on strength training with these clients include how they now ‘hold themselves better’ (improved posture), ‘feel stronger’, ‘feel more confident’, have better balance, reduced lower back pain and ‘can do things around the house independently’.
